JOINT

PAIN

SPECIALIST

Dr. Richard Le and his team at Fountains Family Care treat patients with joint pain, including in the shoulders, knees, and elbows. Joint pain isn’t usually an emergency. In some cases, it can be handled at home, but people often benefit from seeking medical attention. You should see your Fountains provider if you experience swelling, redness, and severe pain, since this could indicate a more serious underlying problem that should be addressed.

After your comprehensive evaluation, your Fountains provider might recommend treatments, such as:
  • Medications
  • Cortisone injections
  • Lifestyle changes and guidance
  • Referral to physical therapy or an orthopedic doctor

Typically, cortisone injections are effective for treating joint pain, especially when used in conjunction with a physical therapy program. Cortisone injections can provide pain relief in 2-3 days. Lifestyle changes like increasing and modifying your physical activity and improving your nutrition and dietary habits can greatly lessen joint pain.

There are some steps you can take to relieve your joint pain at home, such as:
  • Ice or heat packs
  • Over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications
  • Elevating and stretching the affected joint, which sometimes offers relief
  • Improving your nutrition and consuming more anti-inflammatory foods
  • Finding the right balance of exercise and movement when it feels best
  • Soaking in a warm bathtub to increase circulation and relax muscle tension

By combining your at-home efforts with medical treatments, you can find relief from your joint pain and improve your mobility and quality of life.
